The MSL will serve as a scientific resource for Canadian experts in the field of Immunology (Dermatology, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology). The MSL is responsible for responding to requests for in depth, cutting edge scientific information from the medical community in the autoimmune field including the latest scientific literature, the latest research from major scientific conferences, updates on our client’s educational activities and our client’s pipeline research activities. The MSL will also gather feedback and insight from Scientific Experts and Thought Leaders to better inform our client’s research and overall strategic direction. By facilitating scientific exchange between the academic community and our client, the MSL has the opportunity to shape the future of healthcare with information that addresses important clinical and scientific questions. In all interactions, the MSL has responsibility to ensure that activities are compliant with all applicable guidelines, Rules and Regulations for Conducting Research, IMC Code of Conduct, our client’s Canadian Policy on the Promotion of Pharmaceutical Products and Ethical Interactions with Health Care Providers, and other prevailing regulations/codes that may pertain to their work in the future.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), physicians, researchers, and other healthcare professionals (HCPs) within the assigned therapeutic area(s).
- Serve as a scientific resource, providing accurate and up-to-date medical information to healthcare professionals through one-on-one interactions, presentations, and educational programs.
- Stay abreast of scientific literature, clinical guidelines, competitor activities, and emerging trends within the assigned therapeutic area(s).
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams including Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Marketing, and Sales to support strategic initiatives and ensure alignment of medical strategies.
- Provide medical and scientific support for clinical research activities, including investigator-initiated studies, clinical trials, and publications.
- Represent the organization at medical conferences, symposia, and advisory boards, presenting scientific data and fostering professional relationships.
- Respond to inquiries from HCPs, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders regarding product information, safety, and clinical data.
- Contribute to the development of medical education materials, scientific publications, and other medical communications initiatives.
- Participate in the training of internal teams, including sales representatives and medical affairs staff, on scientific and medical topics related to the assigned therapeutic area(s).
- Maintain compliance with relevant regulations, industry standards, and company policies in all activities.
Education/Competencies Requirements
- Advanced degree in a scientific or healthcare-related field (MD, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent). Open to a highly experienced specialty representative with a Masters degree – familiar with KOL engagement
- 2+ years of direct MSL experience preferred
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders and other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
- Flexibility to travel as needed to attend meetings, conferences, and other events (approximately 50% travel required, 30% overnight).
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
What we are looking for:
- Intellectual curiosity and intelligence about the field of Immunology, Dermatology disorders
- Ability to critically appraise scientific information / literature
- Strong presentation skills including the ability to comprehend large amounts of scientific content, which is then communicated in a clear, concise fashion
- Demonstrated ability to build strong/collaborative peer-to-peer relationships with external customers
- Familiarity with the academic community and medical research
- Significant direct experience in servicing customer needs for complex information
- Experience in professional networking with positive mutually beneficial outcome
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills including an ability to work effectively with internal colleagues and cross-functional team member
- Strong project management skills with an ability to work within teams to prioritize key projects and medical tactics
- Previous Medical Science Liaison experience
- Significant clinical or research work in the areas of autoimmune diseases including Immunology – Gastroenterology.
- This is a field-based role with the territory being heavily focused in the GTA
- This role encompass’ local, US and International travel – which can happen within a few weeks’ notice, 50% will involve day trips, some overnight maybe required (30%)
- Must be able to travel internationally
